How to Set Up a Dartboard at Home

Introduction

Setting up your dartboard correctly is essential for fair play, consistent practice, and avoiding damage to your walls. Whether you’re building a home darts setup or preparing for competitive play, getting the right height and distance is crucial.

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you set up your dartboard like a pro.

Step 1: Choose the Right Location

·         Pick a flat, well-lit wall with enough space for players to stand comfortably.

·         Make sure there’s at least 2 metres clearance behind the throwing line.

·         Protect the surrounding area with a dartboard surround or cabinet.

Step 2: Dartboard Height

According to World Darts Federation (WDF) standards:

·         The bullseye must be exactly 1.73m (5ft 8in) from the floor.

·         Measure carefully from the ground to the centre of the bullseye.

Step 3: Throwing Distance (Oche)

For steel tip darts:

The throwing line should be 2.37m (7ft 9.25in) from the front of the dartboard.

For soft tip darts:

The line should be 2.44m (8ft).

👉 Mark the line with tape, a raised oche, or a dart mat.

Step 4: Secure the Dartboard

·         Mount the dartboard with the 20 segment at the top.

·         Use a secure bracket or wall mount for stability.

·         Make sure the board doesn’t wobble when darts hit it.

Step 5: Add Accessories

·         A dart mat protects floors and shows the proper throwing distance.

·         A surround or cabinet protects walls from stray darts.

·         Good lighting (like a dartboard light ring) reduces shadows.

By following these simple steps, you’ll have a dartboard setup that matches professional standards, making practice more effective and fun. At Deadeye Darts, we stock everything you need — from boards to mats, surrounds, and lighting — so you can set up your perfect home darts arena.
