Tex Pegasus 90% Tungsten 24 gram Steel Tip Darts
When these first arrived I looked at them and thought “what the..?”
I’d heard rumours Tex were releasing a range of darts, but in all honesty had no idea what to expect.
Let me just say they are a surprise package, of the pleasant kind.
I think it’s fair to say that I’ll be contacting the team at Deadeye about the images online, because they just don’t do these darts justice. Online they look the part of a standard ringed set of barrels, in actual fact, what would be a smooth surface between the machined rings is in fact a series of micro grooves.
So, the basics, the barrels are 51mm long and 7mm in diameter.
Like many darts the grip is divided into two zones separated by what would (in other darts) be a smooth centre section, not on the Pegasus, every outer surface is subjected to having a super fine micro grooved surface. Each ringed grip zone is defined on the barrel with a purple coloured ring.
See the updated image:
Surprisingly the grip isn’t extreme but strangely comfortable, likely due to it being a micro groove profile. The barrel is described as pencil shaped, but the profile shows it clearly tapers away towards the flight end, meaning they will clearly be a little front loaded.
The darts are finished with black points, black “Texgrip” in between length shafts and fitted with Tex Pegasus themed flights. I’m a big fan of creatures across a lot of ancient mythology, but I’m not at all sure how the darts relate to a flying horse.
So, I hear you ask, what are they like?
I am always a bit wary when something looks too good to be true or too cheap. People in general tend to use “you get what you pay for” as a guideline when they spend their hard earned cash, as do I. I can tell you in this instance, what you’re not paying for is fancy packaging glitzy advertising and outrageous claims and player paid endorsements. From what I’ve seen these are well made, excellently finished and great to play with.
Throwing these, I found them to be easy to throw, comfortable in the hand and really well balanced. Whether you are a front gripper, mid gripper or rear gripper I reckon anyone could throw them. At 7mm diameter you can easily fit them all in the treble with a few extra, I found everyone was straight in the board at a similar angle of entry, even deflections when the darts were grouped closely in the board were minimal, after a series of solid work outs the barrels showed only minor scuffs. So in my humble opinion they clearly demonstrate their quality on multiple levels - material, manufacture and finish at a price point that defines them as value for money alternative for more expensive brands, not a cheap substitute.
4.25 out of 5 for the Pegasus.
